“groovy trio with rotating sax guests, lots of space and swing where everyone's actually listening to each other”
event details
Guitarist Nash Lee (12 Tone Diamonds, Rabid Hawk) leads a refined trio exploring subtle rhythmic interplay and melodic dialogue — a sound that honours the jazz tradition while embracing open improvisation and forward motion. Joined by Charlie Rank on double bass and Alfie Pleasance on drums, the trio brings a grounded yet fluid approach, allowing space, swing, and risk to coexist. Each week, the trio showcases some of Melbourne’s finest tenor saxophonists, creating a rotating dialogue between core ensemble and guest voice. Lee began his musical journey in the mid to late ’90s on the NSW North Coast, mentored by rhythm visionary Greg Sheehan and guitarist Jim Kelly. During that formative period, he drew deep inspiration from the vibrant local scene — including the late Dave Addes, Thierry Fosmale, Scott Tinkler, and Elliot Dalgliesh — alongside the electric-era recordings of Miles Davis. Having spent much of his career in original improvised music, Lee has more recently turned his focus
