Rising Perth singer, songwriter and producer Newport today shares bittersweet new single ‘Fickle’, a track that has already garnered millions of views on socials prior to its release. Alongside the release, Newport also announces an Australian headline tour for October.
Written, produced and recorded in his bedroom following a period of creative stagnation, ‘Fickle’ reflects on a turbulent relationship through the lens of acceptance – even though a relationship was fleeting and imperfect, you wouldn't change it. Sharing a demo of ‘Fickle’ on his socials earlier this month, the snippet has already reached over 3 million views with 500,000 interactions across socials, with fans pleading for Newport to release the song.
“Fickle felt like a reward from the universe. I'd been stuck, unable to write anything that truly inspired me or resonated with me. So I took time off being creative and did a lot of inner healing, eventually coming to a sense of acceptance about a lot of things in terms of past turbulent relationships, missing my childhood, identity crises.
Then one day I stumbled into making this song. I was watching YouTube with my guitar plugged into the amp, just playing around with chords, until I landed on something that felt really good. After that I was in a complete flow state and made most of what you hear today in one sitting.”
Pre-sale is available via Newport’s newsletter, with general sale from Friday, 28 August at 9am
