Matt Hoyne Quintet ‘Furniture Music’ Album Launch

Guitarist Matt Hoyne launches his fourth album, Furniture Music, with a quintet made up of some of Melbourne’s most exciting improvising musicians. The first set will feature new music arranged for the group while the second set will be a performance of the album. This concert will feature the immeasurable talents of Niran Daskia on trumpet, Holly Moore on alto saxophone, Robbie Finch on bass and Lewis Pierre on drums. Like well-designed furniture, this music is intended to provide comfort, offer respite from the busyness of everyday life, and elevate the experience of being at home. While it isn’t background music, it is best experienced communally, in the company of others. These songs make no claim to lofty ideals, nor are they inspired by highfalutin concepts or elaborate systems. Instead, they were born from the beautiful mundanity of everyday life, taking their names from people, places, and books.
